Green Bay Packers

The Packers cashed the board's mistake on Magee: B-.

Call it larceny. Jordan Magee sat on the board until No. 202, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice.

The cost of the Jennings reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Mustapha pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher and wide receiver.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 21
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a sticky cover corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 46
Junior Colson at pick 42 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Renardo Green · S · rank 71
They jumped the gun on Renardo Green, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Ray Davis · RB · rank 96
Ray Davis in pick No. 88 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 102
The board had cheaper options than Ben Sinnott at the 91st overall pick, and it noticed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · DeWayne Carter · DT · rank 110
Quietly one of the better values of the day, DeWayne Carter at the Round 4 slot. It fills a real need, too.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 113
Braelon Allen at slot 126 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 132
A curious use of No. 127. Edge rusher and wide receiver needed the pick; a safety in Malik Mustapha did not.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 152
A quiet steal in the 169th overall pick: Mason McCormick for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
R5.35 · Pick 171 · Trevin Wallace · LB · rank 151
Steal is underselling it; Trevin Wallace at the 171st pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 180
They went early on Jordan Travis in No. 172, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Jordan Magee · LB · rank 161
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jordan Magee in Round 6, Pick 27, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 216
Joe Milton III at slot 219 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Jalen Sundell · OT · rank 276
Jalen Sundell at pick No. 245 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Donovan Jennings · OT · rank 291
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Donovan Jennings. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
