Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent slot 255 on Omar Speights, a name most had 73 spots down the list.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The Grable pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Kool-Aid McKinstry, who had no business lasting to slot 41. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for Max Melton in No. 58; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A premium they did not need to pay, Ray Davis a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Roger Rosengarten at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had cheaper options than Cedric Gray at pick No. 108, and it noticed. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Malik Mustapha in the 126th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Braiden McGregor at pick 169 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid up for Joe Milton III at No. 202 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid a round early for Trey Taylor in the 219th pick, more than the board wanted. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Tylan Grable in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached a country mile for Omar Speights at the 255th overall pick, and the board is aghast. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
