Green Bay Packers

Good, not great, for the Packers: B-.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Packers spent slot 245 on Jowon Briggs, a name the board had a full 26 spots lower. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On value alone, Whittington makes the weekend a net positive.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 34
In the 25th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 48
Edgerrin Cooper in pick 41 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Max Melton · CB · rank 67
A conviction pick on Max Melton at the Round 2 slot that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Ray Davis · RB · rank 96
A reach on Ray Davis in Round 3, Pick 25; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 102
They paid a round early for Ben Sinnott in slot 91, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 131
Malik Mustapha at No. 126 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 178
By-the-book stuff, Ty'Ron Hopper at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 216
Joe Milton III in the 202nd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 230
They paid up for Trey Taylor at the 219th pick when waiting would have done the job. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R7.1 · Pick 221 · Dylan McMahon · C · rank 240
A wild overpay on Dylan McMahon in pick No. 221, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Jowon Briggs · DT · rank 271
Jowon Briggs in slot 245 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Jordan Whittington · WR · rank 236
Steal is underselling it; Jordan Whittington at No. 255 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
