Nobody else had Jarrett Kingston anywhere near the Round 7 slot. The Packers did, by 65 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Getting Holker where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The Packers indulged a want in Oladapo while a need in interior defensive lineman stayed open.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Max Melton at pick No. 56 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board had cheaper options than Marshawn Kneeland at the 58th overall pick, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They read the board right and Renardo Green was the payoff at No. 87. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ray Davis. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A conviction pick on Ben Sinnott at the 92nd pick that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Cedric Gray at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They did well to land Brenden Rice in Round 4, Pick 26, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 128th overall pick on Kitan Oladapo with interior defensive lineman unsolved.
A reach on Ty'Ron Hopper in slot 169; the board had better options right there. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Braiden McGregor in the 174th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Dallin Holker in pick 202 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
They paid a round early for Trey Taylor in No. 219, more than the board wanted. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Somehow Jaylan Ford was still sitting there in pick No. 245, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Jarrett Kingston at pick No. 248 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They liked Devin Leary enough to skip the value, taking him in the 255th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
