It is the swing that defines the weekend: Ty'Ron Hopper in pick 91, a good 87 spots before the room expected him. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.
They will answer for taking linebacker early while cornerback, wide receiver and other spots went begging. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.
So much rides on Jordan Morgan that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a blindside protector, reach and all. A real need, handled.
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in No. 45; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Good price on Javon Bullard in the 58th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor itch, scratched.
MarShawn Lloyd in pick No. 88 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Ty'Ron Hopper adds a linebacker and leaves cornerback, wide receiver and other spots untouched.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Malik Mustapha while clear needs at cornerback, wide receiver and other spots sat open.
The board had cheaper options than Jordan Travis at No. 168, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Khristian Boyd at Round 5, Pick 33 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A conviction pick on Nathaniel Watson at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Value said wait; Trey Taylor in the 202nd overall pick says they were not listening. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Fair-plus on Joe Milton III, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Jalen Sundell at the 245th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They talked themselves into Jarrett Kingston at pick 255, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
