The Packers went off the board in a big way for Xavian Sorey Jr., 29 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Sturdivant steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th pick they get a green-dot type in the middle. Need was not the driver here.
Jaheim Oatis at pick 51 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reach for Walter Nolen in the Round 3 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
J. Michael Sturdivant in pick No. 117 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Bru McCoy in the 147th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Julian Fleming went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 19. The roster fit checks out.
