They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Hayden Hatten, 81 picks early at the Round 7 slot.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Landing McCormick that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
The Packers paired the rookies with proven help, Joe Mixon leading the way. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
A tidy little value on Jordan Morgan in the 41st pick, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Edgerrin Cooper at the 58th overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Javon Bullard at No. 59 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid up for MarShawn Lloyd at the Round 3 slot when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Devontez Walker in pick No. 88 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ben Sinnott at the 89th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Roger Rosengarten. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Mohamed Kamara at the Round 3 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cedric Gray in pick No. 123 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Kitan Oladapo in Round 4, Pick 26 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Michael Pratt in No. 127 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Beaux Limmer in the 131st overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Mason McCormick was the payoff at slot 169. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Kalen King at slot 188, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A big swing on Joe Milton III at pick No. 189, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in the 202nd overall pick, with Curtis Jacobs worth more than the price. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Evan Williams at the 219th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They liked Jacob Monk enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 6 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They went early on Trente Jones in pick 238, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jowon Briggs. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached a country mile for Donovan Jennings at Round 7, Pick 27, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
Hayden Hatten at pick No. 255 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
