There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Giovanni El-Hadi a full 41 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. Getting Sturdivant where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 19 they get a two-high chess piece. Need was not the driver here.
No drama and no debate, TreVeyon Henderson went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jay Higgins. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A slide stopped in the 115th pick, with J. Michael Sturdivant worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Jasheen Davis at the 147th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
CJ Dippre at Round 6, Pick 19 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Giovanni El-Hadi at the 211th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
