The tape said wait; the Packers did not. Deontae Lawson went at pick No. 211, a good 33 picks before the board was ready. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. The back end got a real overhaul.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th overall pick they get a downhill hitter at safety. More want than need.
They took Dani Dennis-Sutton at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Jonah Monheim in pick No. 83; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Jack Kiser at pick 115 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid sticker price for Bryce Foster in No. 147, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Dorian Strong at the 179th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Deontae Lawson at the 211th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
