They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Giovanni El-Hadi, 34 picks early at the 218th pick. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The Packers indulged a want in McCullough while a need in wide receiver stayed open.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Tate Ratledge at par in slot 56, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Jay Higgins at pick 83 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Shemar Turner in the 90th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Wyatt Milum at pick No. 115 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
They bypassed pressing needs at wide receiver to take Dasan McCullough, a linebacker that was not the priority.
They paid up for Raheim Sanders at slot 120 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They went early on Thor Griffith in the 147th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
They liked Benjamin Yurosek enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 149. It fills a real need, too.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zion Nelson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Zy Alexander went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 6. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had cheaper options than Tony Grimes at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
A clean, defensible pick in the 211th pick with a little surplus value in KJ Jefferson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Sage Ryan at No. 212 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor itch, scratched.
Deontae Lawson at pick No. 216 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Giovanni El-Hadi at slot 218 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
