Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent pick No. 211 on Deontae Lawson, a name most had 33 spots down the list. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 19 they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reach on Tate Ratledge in pick 51; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Jonah Monheim at par in the 83rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
They did well to land Wyatt Milum in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jasheen Davis in pick No. 147 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tony Grimes at No. 179 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Deontae Lawson this early at Round 7, Pick 19. It adds depth where they could use a little.
