Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Shilo Sanders, the No. 78 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 115. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Reaching for Lawson left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Josh Simmons in the 65th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Shemar Turner in slot 83, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Smael Mondon Jr. at pick 97 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board fumbled Shilo Sanders all the way to Round 4, Pick 19, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Wyatt Milum in the 120th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Bryce Foster at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
Jasheen Davis at No. 147 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zy Alexander at pick No. 179 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Deontae Lawson at pick 211 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
