This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Tre Harris, the No. 44 name on the board, stolen at Round 6, Pick 19. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. More want than need.
Malaki Starks at the 52nd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Walter Nolen in slot 83, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Ajani Cornelius slipping to pick 85 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Oscar Delp at No. 115 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Ashton Gillotte at the 116th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Circle this one: Jonah Monheim at Round 4, Pick 21 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A quarterback of that caliber at pick No. 160 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Tre Harris was still sitting there in pick 179, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board fumbled Shemar Turner all the way to No. 180, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jordan Hancock in Round 7, Pick 19 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Wyatt Milum in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
