The rest of the league will want that one back. Oscar Delp tumbling to the Packers in the 147th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
With cornerback, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. They will need Grimes to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a three-down second-level presence at a price that makes it sweeter.
A reach for Tate Ratledge in slot 51; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jay Higgins at linebacker with cornerback, quarterback and other spots open.
Taking Shemar Turner in the 119th pick is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Oscar Delp all the way to pick 147, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tony Grimes in Round 6, Pick 19 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
