The phones sank the Packers this weekend: D.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Jacob Dobbs; the Packers did not wait, grabbing him 73 spots ahead at pick 218.

However the rest shakes out, Gabriel at that price is a win they earned. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.19 · Pick 51 · Tate Ratledge · OG · rank 60
A conviction pick on Tate Ratledge at pick No. 51 that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Rylie Mills · DL · rank 96
Rylie Mills at the 83rd pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.19 · Pick 115 · Gentry Williams · CB · rank 120
They paid sticker price for Gentry Williams in slot 115, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.12 · Pick 140 · Jasheen Davis · DL-EDGE · rank 152
They liked Jasheen Davis enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 12. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.19 · Pick 147 · Zion Nelson · OT · rank 153
Zion Nelson at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.20 · Pick 148 · T.J. Sanders · DT · rank 156
A reach on T.J. Sanders in the 148th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.21 · Pick 149 · Dillon Gabriel · QB · rank 80
Taking Dillon Gabriel in pick 149 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.26 · Pick 154 · Zach Rice · OG · rank 160
A straight-up fair deal on Zach Rice at No. 154, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.32 · Pick 160 · Fentrell Cypress II · CB · rank 169
They paid a round early for Fentrell Cypress II in the Round 5 slot, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.6 · Pick 166 · Thor Griffith · DT · rank 162
Thor Griffith at slot 166 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
R6.19 · Pick 179 · Jo'Quavious Marks · RB · rank 206
Jo'Quavious Marks at the 179th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.20 · Pick 180 · CJ Dippre · TE · rank 178
No edge and no loss on CJ Dippre in Round 6, Pick 20; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.21 · Pick 181 · Ben Bywater · LB · rank 183
Ben Bywater in pick No. 181 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
R6.32 · Pick 192 · Keaten Wade · LB-EDGE · rank 203
They went early on Keaten Wade in the 192nd overall pick, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.1 · Pick 193 · Dorian Strong · CB · rank 185
They let Dorian Strong come to them and pounced at pick 193. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.2 · Pick 194 · Jake Johnson · TE · rank 201
Jake Johnson in Round 7, Pick 2 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.19 · Pick 211 · Nic Anderson · WR · rank 209
They took Nic Anderson at par in No. 211, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
R7.21 · Pick 213 · Jack Nelson · OT · rank 220
By-the-book stuff, Jack Nelson at pick No. 213 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.23 · Pick 215 · Jordan Burch · DE-EDGE · rank 222
Jordan Burch at the 215th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.24 · Pick 216 · Agiye Hall · WR · rank 246
A real head-scratcher, Agiye Hall in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.26 · Pick 218 · Jacob Dobbs · LB · rank 291
Jacob Dobbs at the 218th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.29 · Pick 221 · Giovanni El-Hadi · OG · rank 252
A wild overpay on Giovanni El-Hadi in slot 221, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.30 · Pick 222 · Sage Ryan · S · rank 231
A reach for Sage Ryan in pick No. 222; a little patience would have been rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R7.32 · Pick 224 · Julian Fleming · WR · rank 278
Julian Fleming in No. 224 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
