There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Keeshawn Silver a full 23 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk. The dealing was even money, start to finish.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the back end. Need was not the driver here.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tate Ratledge a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jamon Dumas-Johnson in Round 3, Pick 19 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Hancock. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Jasheen Davis at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for Trikweze Bridges in No. 188, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Keeshawn Silver. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jack Nelson at pick No. 220 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
