Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent the 211th pick on Connor Colby, a name most had 46 spots down the list.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Uiagalelei. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid a round early for Danny Stutsman in the 51st pick, more than the board wanted. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jonah Monheim at pick No. 84 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
They did well to land Oscar Delp in slot 88, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A conviction pick on Aydan White at Round 4, Pick 27 that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Jasheen Davis in the 147th overall pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Zion Nelson at the 148th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid up for Thor Griffith at slot 150 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They read the board right and DJ Uiagalelei was the payoff at pick No. 179. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tony Grimes at the 181st pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Jo'Quavious Marks at Round 6, Pick 24 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Theo Wease Jr. at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A big swing on Connor Colby at No. 211, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
