The Packers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending Round 7, Pick 23 on Elliot Donald a full 77 spots early.
Winston Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 20 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kevin Winston Jr. at Round 2, Pick 19 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jonah Monheim in the 83rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They let J. Michael Sturdivant come to them and pounced at slot 115. The roster fit checks out.
Wyatt Milum in the 117th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Jasheen Davis at pick 147, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid up for Thor Griffith at the 150th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Zion Nelson in the 156th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Ben Bywater at par in pick 179, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They jumped the gun on Tony Grimes, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Eugene Asante in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Kyle McCord at Round 7, Pick 19 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Chantz Williams in pick No. 213, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Elliot Donald this early at slot 215. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Connor Colby in the 220th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
