Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Jack Kiser, the No. 124 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 211. A F, plain and simple.
They will need Silver to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 19 they get an island corner, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In No. 20 they get a lockdown presence outside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 21st pick they get an enforcer at safety at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Circle this one: Jack Sawyer at the Round 2 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on Tate Ratledge in pick No. 52; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Walter Nolen in slot 83, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Jonah Monheim at the 115th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ashton Gillotte at Round 4, Pick 20 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Jamon Dumas-Johnson in Round 4, Pick 21 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They robbed the room for Rylie Mills here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
You do not let a wide receiver like J. Michael Sturdivant reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Wyatt Milum in pick No. 179 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
