The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Omarion Hampton, the 119th overall pick, roughly 83 picks past where he belonged. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
The Griffith pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a disruptor off the edge, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 24th pick they get a lockdown presence outside at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Somehow Travis Hunter was still sitting there in pick 55, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Abdul Carter at No. 56 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Tate Ratledge at slot 57 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Denzel Burke at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 119 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jonah Monheim in the 120th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled DJ Uiagalelei all the way to the 151st pick, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Benjamin Yurosek still on the board at No. 152. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Thor Griffith this early at the Round 5 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Collin Oliver at slot 155 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zach Rice. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Savion Williams at pick No. 202 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nice patience on Zane Durant, who had no business lasting to Round 7, Pick 21. It fills a real need, too.
Khordae Sydnor in pick 215 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Shawn Murphy at Round 7, Pick 24 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Carson Hinzman at pick No. 217 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
