If confidence were a draft strategy, the Packers would have aced it. Khordae Sydnor at Round 7, Pick 31 is 36 spots clear of where he belonged.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get juice off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In slot 26 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jason Marshall Jr.. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had cheaper options than Smael Mondon Jr. at the 87th pick, and it noticed. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A tidy little value on Nicholas Singleton in Round 3, Pick 26, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Wyatt Milum in the 95th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Davison Igbinosun at the 119th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jacobee Bryant at the 127th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Alfred Collins in pick 151 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Thor Griffith in pick No. 153 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Seth McLaughlin in slot 159 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dylan Fairchild. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They went early on Bru McCoy in No. 191, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Shawn Murphy this early at Round 7, Pick 23. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They reached a country mile for Khordae Sydnor at Round 7, Pick 31, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
