You build a draft on nights like this. Jordan Hancock had no business being available in slot 151, and the Packers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a press-man option on the boundary, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Will Campbell at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Kenneth Grant at pick 87 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ashton Gillotte in Round 4, Pick 23 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Jordan Hancock still on the board at No. 151. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jonah Monheim in the 183rd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cody Simon at the 215th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
