The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Zane Durant, taking him 58 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
That Dart pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Tate Ratledge at pick No. 55 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They let Tory Horton come to them and pounced at slot 87. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Donovan Edwards is a better player than pick 94 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Dasan McCullough at the 119th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They barely believed it either: Jaxson Dart still on the board at the Round 5 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Domani Jackson at Round 5, Pick 24 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tyler Baron at pick 153 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Jahdae Barron all the way to pick No. 179, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They will replay Maxwell Hairston at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They did well to land Julian Fleming in Round 6, Pick 22, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Will Howard in No. 183 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach on Jack Kiser in the 192nd pick; the board had better options right there. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Connor Colby this early at slot 202. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A real head-scratcher, Zane Durant in the 213th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cody Simon at the 215th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Shawn Murphy in slot 217, miles early. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Eugene Asante at No. 222 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
