The rest of the league had time to spare on Chantz Williams; the Packers did not wait, grabbing him 109 spots ahead at slot 214. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Sturdivant pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Kevin Winston Jr. in pick 55 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Tyleik Williams in the 56th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Tate Ratledge at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Nicholas Singleton in pick No. 87 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; J. Michael Sturdivant at No. 119 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach for Davison Igbinosun in pick 120; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Jack Nelson in the 155th pick, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Maxwell Hairston in pick No. 166. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A conviction pick on Jordan Burch at No. 183 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Thor Griffith in the 185th overall pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Theo Wease Jr.. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jake Johnson at Round 7, Pick 20 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached into another round for Chantz Williams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Connor Colby at the Round 7 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Brady Cook at Round 7, Pick 24 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Lander Barton went about where he belonged in slot 217. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
By-the-book stuff, Zy Alexander at the 219th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cody Simon at the 222nd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
