Nobody else had Chantz Williams anywhere near pick No. 218. The Packers did, by 108 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Gadsden II.
The Packers paired the rookies with proven help, Tyler Linderbaum leading the way.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 23 they get a lockdown presence outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 24 they get an island corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Jalen Milroe in the 55th overall pick, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quiet steal in the 87th pick: Shilo Sanders for less than the market said. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Value with a capital V on Wyatt Milum in the Round 4 slot, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Raheim Sanders in pick 120. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in slot 151, where Jonah Monheim graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
They let Alfred Collins come to them and pounced at No. 183. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
CJ Dippre at pick 212 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Cody Simon this early at pick No. 213. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Shawn Murphy at the Round 7 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They talked themselves into Davin Vann at Round 7, Pick 23, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zane Durant at the 216th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Antwaun Powell-Ryland. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Chantz Williams in No. 218 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Bru McCoy at pick No. 221 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Oronde Gadsden II at the 222nd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ben Bywater at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
