The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Trajan Jeffcoat, taking him 59 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They banked enough surplus on Nugent to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in No. 60; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Trey Benson in the 87th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Johnny Wilson in pick 127 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jordan Jefferson at pick No. 133 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Dwight McGlothern at Round 5, Pick 37 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Drake Nugent is a better player than the 216th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 233 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached into another round for Trajan Jeffcoat, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
