Green Bay Packers

No fireworks, just a tidy B+ for the Packers.

The Xavian Sorey Jr. pick is the one that will follow the Packers into the fall. They took him 66 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

The Dart pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The veteran additions, Will Fries chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. The trade work was a quiet net positive.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 8 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.15 · Pick 47 · James Pearce Jr. · DE-EDGE · rank 34
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing James Pearce Jr. in pick No. 47. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Barrett Carter · LB · rank 25
Barrett Carter at the 69th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 70
The board had Nicholas Singleton higher than the Round 3 slot, and the running back fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.36 · Pick 100 · Jaxson Dart · QB · rank 54
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Jaxson Dart in Round 3, Pick 36, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.37 · Pick 101 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 86
Nick Emmanwori slid further than he should have, and pick 101 is lovely value for the safety. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.15 · Pick 116 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 71
Circle this one: Domani Jackson at No. 116 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.14 · Pick 152 · Jonah Monheim · C · rank 158
They took Jonah Monheim at par in slot 152, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
R6.9 · Pick 184 · Luke Lachey · TE · rank 190
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Luke Lachey. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Armand Membou · OT · rank 209
They talked themselves into Armand Membou at Round 6, Pick 11, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.9 · Pick 223 · Kyren Lacy · WR · rank 214
A quiet steal in the Round 7 slot: Kyren Lacy for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.13 · Pick 227 · Dasan McCullough · S · rank 191
They robbed the room for Dasan McCullough here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.32 · Pick 246 · Jordan James · RB · rank 286
They reached into another round for Jordan James, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.33 · Pick 247 · Tory Horton · WR · rank 269
A wild overpay on Tory Horton in the 247th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
R7.34 · Pick 248 · Xavian Sorey Jr. · LB · rank 314
Xavian Sorey Jr. in pick No. 248 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.40 · Pick 254 · Zane Durant · DT · rank 288
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zane Durant in the 254th overall pick, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
