There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Tyler Batty a full 91 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
Getting Dart where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 20th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Somehow Luther Burden III was still sitting there in No. 47, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A need, and now a little less of one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Wyatt Milum in slot 49. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Colston Loveland slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 14 is lovely value for the tight end. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 3 slot is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nick Emmanwori in the 80th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Smael Mondon Jr. at No. 98. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They read the board right and Kevin Winston Jr. was the payoff at pick 99. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 36 with a little surplus value in Tacario Davis. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Shavon Revel Jr. in the 105th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jihaad Campbell. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They barely believed it either: Jaxson Dart still on the board at pick No. 117. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Abdul Carter in the 138th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in slot 148, where J.Michael Sturdivant graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Garrett Dellinger in pick 186, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kyren Lacy at Round 6, Pick 32 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A quiet steal in No. 223: Armand Membou for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Haynes King all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tim Smith in pick No. 225 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They went early on Jasheen Davis in the 231st overall pick, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Makari Paige in the 233rd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Tory Horton at slot 246 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tyler Batty. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached into another round for Trevor Etienne, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Power Echols went about where he belonged in No. 249. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Zane Durant in the 254th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
