The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Cade Klubnik slide 76 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Stackhouse to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 16 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Mykel Williams at Round 2, Pick 15 is the proof. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Nice patience on Nicholas Singleton, who had no business lasting to the 78th pick. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Derrick Harmon went about where he belonged in slot 117. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a quarterback like Cade Klubnik reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Henry Parrish Jr. at No. 169 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tyler Baron at the 170th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They reached a country mile for Aeneas Peebles at pick No. 171, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached into another round for Nazir Stackhouse, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kyle McCord at the 208th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
