When a board-topper like Jaxson Dart slides to Round 4, Pick 16, you do not overthink it, and the Cowboys did not.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Baron reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 16 they get a premier pass rusher. Need was not the driver here.
Fair-plus on Deone Walker, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Dylan Sampson in the 78th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jaxson Dart in the 117th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kobe Hudson at slot 153 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Shemar Turner went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tyler Baron a notch or two before his time. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
By-the-book stuff, Nick Martin at Round 5, Pick 33 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jared Ivey in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A reasonable price with a little left over, De'Corian Clark in slot 208. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
