You could see the war room lean forward. Drew Allar at the Round 6 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.
The Ryan pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
A reach for Josh Conerly Jr. in No. 24; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Jalon Walker in the 64th pick, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Colston Loveland in pick 86 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Domani Jackson at the 119th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nice patience on Daylen Everette, who had no business lasting to pick No. 125. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jihaad Campbell slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 36 is lovely value for the linebacker. A minor itch, scratched.
Value said wait; Jared Wilson in slot 160 says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Garrett Dellinger at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They let Hunter Wohler come to them and pounced at Round 6, Pick 7. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Drew Allar at pick 197 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached a country mile for Bru McCoy at the 202nd overall pick, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Alfred Collins in the 204th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Trevor Etienne at No. 231 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They talked themselves into Sage Ryan at pick No. 248, and the board did not agree. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
