You could see the war room lean forward. Ozzy Trapilo at pick No. 160 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will need Walker to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid a round early for Deone Walker in pick No. 30, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value with a capital V on Tate Ratledge in No. 55, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Dillon Gabriel all the way to the 86th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Maxwell Hairston at pick 125 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ozzy Trapilo in Round 5, Pick 22 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Garrett Dellinger in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jason Henderson at slot 248 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
