Call it larceny. Lander Barton sat on the board until slot 159, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice.
They are betting Etienne proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
So much rides on Wyatt Milum that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Shavon Revel Jr. at No. 55, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They robbed the room for Jalon Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Fair-plus on Tyleik Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Nick Emmanwori still on the board at slot 125. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Lander Barton at the 159th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Tacario Davis in Round 5, Pick 22 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Luke Lachey at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
