This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jaxson Dart, the No. 127 name on the board, stolen at the 238th overall pick. Hard to defend, and the D+ reflects that.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Campbell pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman still on the board.
They are betting Dellinger proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 28 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
You do not let an edge rusher like JT Tuimoloau reach Round 2, Pick 28 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Steal is underselling it; Jack Sawyer at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Barrett Carter at pick 90 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They will replay Colston Loveland at pick No. 93 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Armand Membou slid further than he should have, and slot 129 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 131st pick on Jihaad Campbell with interior defensive lineman unsolved.
Jayden Higgins in the 163rd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Daylen Everette at Round 6, Pick 9 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Garrett Dellinger in No. 202 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Xavier Nwankpa in the 206th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Marcus Mbow at pick No. 237 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jaxson Dart in pick 238 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Damien Martinez all the way to slot 249, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
