You could see the war room lean forward. Deontae Lawson at pick 163 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

They are betting Wedig proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Byron Murphy Jr. deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.27 · Pick 59 · James Pearce Jr. · DE-EDGE · rank 19
James Pearce Jr. at the 59th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.26 · Pick 90 · Colston Loveland · TE · rank 63
Colston Loveland in pick 90 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.33 · Pick 97 · Jake Majors · C · rank 66
Taking Jake Majors in the 97th pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.28 · Pick 129 · Harold Perkins Jr. · LB · rank 113
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Harold Perkins Jr. at pick No. 129 is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R5.25 · Pick 163 · Deontae Lawson · LB · rank 90
They will replay Deontae Lawson at Round 5, Pick 25 for years; that is how good the value is. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Kevin Winston Jr. · S · rank 195
Fair-plus on Kevin Winston Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R7.35 · Pick 249 · Trey Wedig · OT · rank 283
Trey Wedig at No. 249 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
