Somebody in pick 89 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Malaki Starks, the No. 19 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The Covington pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Luther Burden III at the 57th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board fumbled Malaki Starks all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Circle this one: Jake Majors at pick No. 126 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Harold Perkins Jr. in slot 161 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
Kevin Winston Jr. at the 201st pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They talked themselves into Jacobe Covington at No. 248, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
