This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jordan James, the No. 56 name on the board, stolen at the Round 5 slot.
Every board in the league had Jefferson lower, and that gap is the story. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Adding Dawand Jones by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
They read the board right and Benjamin Morrison was the payoff at the 58th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Jake Majors in No. 97; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Maxwell Hairston in slot 127 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A slide stopped in the Round 5 slot, with Daylen Everette worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Andrew Mukuba still on the board at pick No. 146. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Jordan James in Round 5, Pick 24, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Harold Perkins Jr. in pick 201 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jonah Monheim in the 242nd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
KJ Jefferson in the 244th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 250 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
