Call it larceny. Danny Stutsman sat on the board until Round 7, Pick 28, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
The Starks pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, cornerback and other spots. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Packers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They barely believed it either: Nick Emmanwori still on the board at pick No. 58. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Malaki Starks while clear needs at edge rusher, cornerback and other spots sat open.
A linebacker of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 28 is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Tyleik Williams at pick 93 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Circle this one: Deone Walker at slot 95 is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jalen Royals in No. 98 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Fair-plus on Jake Majors, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Mason Taylor in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for Kevin Winston Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Deontae Lawson at the 166th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Harold Perkins Jr. in pick No. 201, plain and simple. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Somehow Brashard Smith was still sitting there in the 225th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jonah Monheim in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Danny Stutsman in No. 242 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Jared Wilson in Round 7, Pick 37 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
