Call it larceny. Smael Mondon Jr. sat on the board until the Round 6 slot, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice.
Reaching for Covington left real value on the table behind him. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyleik Williams at pick No. 59 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kevin Winston Jr. in the 96th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Majors in the 128th pick, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Fair-plus on Domani Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cobee Bryant in No. 162 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Smael Mondon Jr. still on the board at pick 202. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Garrett Dellinger at Round 7, Pick 27 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
A real head-scratcher, Jacobe Covington in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
