The Eagles clearly saw something nobody else did in Tahj Washington, taking him 149 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Walker value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. More want than need.
A straight-up fair deal on Cooper DeJean at the 51st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Audric Estime enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 97. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached into another round for Luke Lachey, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
The board had cheaper options than Darius Robinson at slot 137, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jamon Dumas-Johnson slipping to the Round 5 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Devontez Walker at slot 172 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Tahj Washington in No. 237 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Demani Richardson this early at pick No. 253. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
