There is reaching, and then there is Thor Griffith at Round 6, Pick 21. The Packers jumped the board by 73 and dared it to prove them wrong. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Mondon Jr.. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a matchup weapon at tight end, though the board says they badly overpaid.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Shavon Revel Jr. in No. 54, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nothing to complain about; Jake Majors went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid a round early for Kaimon Rucker in Round 4, Pick 21, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 128 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor itch, scratched.
JJ Pegues at the 158th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They talked themselves into Thor Griffith at pick No. 196, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Julian Fleming well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
Fentrell Cypress II at slot 250 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
