Nobody had Will Sheppard this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 106 spots to get him at pick No. 209. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
Landing Styles that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 14 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jalon Walker in No. 44. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Darrell Jackson Jr. at the 76th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Lathan Ransom in slot 117 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No drama and no debate, Raheim Sanders went about where he belonged in pick No. 150. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached a country mile for Nazir Stackhouse at Round 5, Pick 31, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Taylen Green. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Harold Perkins Jr. at Round 5, Pick 33 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A big swing on J.Michael Sturdivant at slot 188, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Sonny Styles in the Round 6 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They reached into another round for Will Sheppard, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
