Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Patriots never addressed quarterback, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
They will need Oatis to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Briningstool pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for Landon Jackson in slot 34, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 66, where Ajani Cornelius graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dasan McCullough in No. 98 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A tidy little value on Nick Emmanwori in pick 130, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Jaheim Oatis enough to skip the value, taking him in the 133rd pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Domani Jackson at Round 6, Pick 4 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board had Jake Briningstool higher than the 194th overall pick, and the tight end fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Theo Wease Jr. in No. 201. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
