The rest of the league will want that one back. Nicholas Singleton tumbling to the Cowboys in No. 209 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
If Slackman pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A conviction pick on Will Campbell at pick 11 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jack Sawyer in the 42nd pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A real head-scratcher, Alfred Collins in Round 3, Pick 11 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dont'e Thornton Jr. a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaeden Roberts at pick No. 169 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jihaad Campbell at No. 170 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Ollie Gordon II all the way to the 171st overall pick, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They talked themselves into Joey Slackman at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Nicholas Singleton in pick 209 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
