The war room fell hard for Patrick Payton, and it showed at Round 1, Pick 18: 140 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Too much went sideways, and the D+ is the honest tally.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Dart pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the defensive front, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
Hollin Pierce at the 49th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Harold Perkins Jr. in pick No. 80 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jayden Higgins. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A slide stopped in slot 154, with Jaxson Dart worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
