The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Nicholas Singleton slide 119 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
Reaching for Trapilo left real value on the table behind him. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Somehow Nick Emmanwori was still sitting there in Round 2, Pick 4, and they pounced on premier safety value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jihaad Campbell at the 46th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board had cheaper options than Darien Porter at pick No. 67, and it noticed. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached a country mile for Hollin Pierce at slot 77, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ozzy Trapilo at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nothing to complain about; Elic Ayomanor went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Danny Stutsman at pick 138 for years; that is how good the value is. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
You do not let a running back like Nicholas Singleton reach the 219th overall pick and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 220, where Jonah Monheim graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jake Briningstool in the 238th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
