This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Nicholas Singleton, the No. 100 name on the board, stolen at pick 220.
The cost of the Baker reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, with Abdul Carter leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in Round 1, Pick 12 with a little surplus value in Abdul Carter. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy little value on Derrick Harmon in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They liked JT Tuimoloau enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 44. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Jihaad Campbell in pick 68 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They went early on Darien Porter in the 69th overall pick, and the value did not follow. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Hollin Pierce at pick No. 73 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
They let Kevin Winston Jr. come to them and pounced at slot 105. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tosh Baker in the 143rd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Danny Stutsman at pick No. 144 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
The board fumbled Jake Majors all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Davison Igbinosun well ahead of where he belonged. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They will replay Keon Sabb at the 217th pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Nicholas Singleton still on the board at No. 220. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wild overpay on Trey Wedig in Round 7, Pick 25, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
