The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Le'Veon Moss slide 92 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Every board in the league had Baker lower, and that gap is the story. Spending an early pick on linebacker with quarterback and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
They read the board right and Jack Sawyer was the payoff at the 37th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nick Emmanwori at slot 44 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board fumbled Jihaad Campbell all the way to Round 3, Pick 5, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Darien Porter in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board had Elic Ayomanor higher than the 105th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Danny Stutsman at linebacker with quarterback and tight end open.
Sonny Styles at No. 119 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Jake Majors at the 143rd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value said wait; Tosh Baker in No. 171 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tonka Hemingway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A premium they did not need to pay, Roc Taylor a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A running back of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Le'Veon Moss in pick 241 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
