The Jack Nelson selection is the head-turner. The Packers reached 41 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Kiser pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with cornerback, quarterback and other spots still on the board.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 26th pick they get a double-digit-sack hope. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Sebastian Castro at the 51st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They took Jay Higgins at par in pick 83, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jack Kiser adds a linebacker and leaves cornerback, quarterback and other spots untouched.
The board had cheaper options than CJ Daniels at Round 4, Pick 26, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They talked themselves into Bru McCoy at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jack Nelson at Round 6, Pick 19 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
They liked Nolan Rucci enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 211. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
