Somebody in Round 6, Pick 37 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Tre Harris, the No. 23 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 6 they get juice off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Wyatt Milum in the Round 2 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Walter Nolen at the 38th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jihaad Campbell at slot 69 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board fumbled Nick Emmanwori all the way to No. 73, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a running back like Ashton Jeanty reach pick 77 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Derrick Harmon in the 105th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steal is underselling it; Darien Porter at Round 4, Pick 9 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Elic Ayomanor at slot 111 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tre Harris in the 212th overall pick, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Logan Brown at No. 217 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Josaiah Stewart was still sitting there in the 220th pick, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
